Winner of the People’s Choice Award on ABC television’s The New Inventors (2006).

Note: The Wheelchair Boot Slider and Wheelchair Trunk Slider product names can be used interchangeably, depending on the country.

People often have difficulty getting a wheelchair into the boot of a car, and usually resort to having to lift the wheelchair. The Wheelchair Boot Slider can help make this job easier. The Wheelchair Boot Slider is specially designed so that a wheelchair can be pushed into it from either side of the car.

It is ideal for collapsible manual (push along) wheelchairs that collapse form side to side. Generally, it is not suitable for large, heavy electric wheelchairs which do not collapse, not for wheelchairs which collapse front-to back, but feel free to contact us to check.

The Wheelchair Boot Slider Bag (sold separately) makes it easy to carry and store the components of the Slider.

Comprises of three parts:

Boot Blanket – This padded section protects the rear of the car. There is also a thinner section to go inside the boot to give a slippery surface for the wheelchair to slide on when sliding it into or out of the car.

Slider Platform – This is the part that the wheelchair is rolled into. The Slider is the cover to hold the wheelchair in position with Hook & Loop Tape attachments in the top corners. The Slider has two detachable Stop Straps to secure the wheelchair once it is inside. The blue one is 35cm (13.7″) and goes around the small front wheels, and the longer red one is 73cm (29″) and is used for securing the back wheels on large and bariatric wheelchairs. You may not need to use the red strap for standard wheelchairs.

Ground Protector – Place this on the ground under the Slider Platform to protect the Slider Platform from getting dirty, wet, or deteriorating on rough road surfaces. It also keeps clothes clean when leaning the Wheelchair Boot Slider up against your thigh. The Ground Protector has a webbing strap attaching it to the Slider. This is a reminder not to leave it behind before driving away! Also, by pulling the strap, it is not necessary to bend down to pick the Ground Protector up.

All of the above components are available as spare parts. If you need them, just contact us

To Use

Lay the Boot Blanket open across the boot.

Undo one of the Hook & Loop Tape securing straps of the Slider to open the front cover of the Slider Platform. Wheel the folded wheelchair into position. Do up the Hook & Loop Tape on the blue Stop Strap to stop the wheelchair being pushed too far in. Once this Strap has been correctly fitted, it can be left done up.

Lean the Slider Platform with the wheelchair inside against the car boot and use the two front cover handles to lift it up. Most of the weight of the wheelchair will now be resting on the edge of the boot. You can also rest some of the weight on your thigh. Step forward to slide the wheelchair into the boot.

Removing the wheelchair from the boot is easy. Lift the wheelchair onto the edge of the boot using the two small loops on the Slider. Hold the front cover handles to slide the Slider and wheelchair, slowly, gently and safely down to the ground.

Before ordering, please check that this product will work for your vehicle. The maximum height from the ground to the lip of the trunk is approximately 30″.

The Turn Yourself Sheet is excellent to help a person turn in bed if they have trouble turning. The extra slipperiness of the material takes a lot less effort to ‘slide and turn’, rather than turning on standard bed sheets. Turning on standard bed sheets can be an exhausting effort for many people. The reasons may be:

Parkinson’s Disease

Motor Neurone Disease (MND) / Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)

Arthritis

Other muscular skeletal problems

Elderly people

The Turn Yourself Sheet may help these people with limited strength but good mental ability. The Turn Yourself Sheet will reduce the friction under the shoulders and hips when turning.

This material is thin and breathable. Its stays in position well with a very strong breathable foam that will withstand commercial washing.

To Use

Lay the Turn Yourself Sheet on the bed with the black breathable foam pad, face down. This black foam helps anchor it in place to prevent it moving during the night. Spread the Turn Yourself Sheet out on either side of the foam section on the bed. Position the Sheet with the top part just under the pillow to ensure it is under the person’s shoulders. The bottom part will then be under the person’s thighs, ensuring the hips will also be on top of the Turn Yourself Sheet. Most people sleep directly onto the breathable fabric, but another sheet can be placed on it if desired. This may be for people who are allergic to nylon.

When turning in bed, the person can use their legs to start turning or may even use their arms as well. The top layer of the Turn Yourself Sheet will move under the person reducing the normal friction under the body. The extra material that is on either side of the foam pad will slide under the person as they turn. This leaves a little of the material in front of them, but with extra material behind them. When they turn again, onto either their back or onto their other side, the surplus material that was behind them will pass under them during the turn.

Some patients with disturbed sleeping habits may make the foam section curl over during the night. This should not impede any turning or pressure care, though it will look untidy in the morning. Take care when getting in and out of bed to avoid slipping.

Parkinson’s Disease

Motor Neurone Disease

Arthritis

Other muscular skeletal problems

Elderly people

About the Turn Yourself Pad

The top material will reduce the friction under the shoulders and hips when turning. It is placed on the bed and stays in position with a very strong breathable foam that will withstand commercial washing.

The Turn Yourself Pad is laid on the bed with the special foam facing down. Position the Pad with the top part just under the pillow to ensure it is under the person’s shoulders. The bottom part will then be under the person’s thighs, ensuring the hips will also be on the Pad. This product can be used on any size bed.

When turning in bed, the person can use their legs to start turning or may even use their arms as well. The top layer of the Turn Yourself Pad will reduce the normal friction under the body so it may not be necessary to lift the shoulders & hips off the mattress while turning.

The Turn Yourself Pad is also available with a layer of Thermoregulating Material sewn between the foam and the top material. This may be beneficial to people who cannot control their body temperature. It has been helpful for people with Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis, and some Cancer Patients, etc.

This product is similar to the Turn Yourself Sheet (sold separately), which consists of two layers of material that slide over each other when the person needs to turn over. However, some restless people find that it moves around too much during the night. The Turn Yourself Pad has only one layer of slippery material on top. This is sufficient to help a lot of people who do not need the extra ‘slip’.

Highly Flammable Material.
The Trolley Slide Sheet will assist when transferring a patient from a bed to a trolley, or from a trolley to a bed. It is made from a strong nylon material with webbing handles.

The Trolley Slide Sheet will assist when transferring a patient from a bed to a trolley, or from a trolley to a bed. It is made from a strong nylon material with webbing handles.

The webbing handles are long enough to reach when standing with the trolley in position next to the bed. As the patient’s head and feet will be on the sheet, their body will move at the same time. The Sheet will be under the patient and wrapped around them. This helps keep them dignified and secure during the transfer. This is particularly important when being moved from a low bed to a higher trolley.

To Use – Bed To Trolley

Roll up the Trolley Slide Sheet from the edge that has the soft pulling handles attached. Only roll up half of the longest part of the sheet. Roll up as far as the grey tape sewn at the head and foot of the Sheet. Roll the patient over and place the Trolley Slide Sheet under the patient, from the side the patient will be moved from. Use the draw sheet method to pull the Trolley Slide Sheet under the patient. When in position the soft pulling handles will be in position ready to be pulled across.

The rest of the sheet should now be positioned over the patient’s body and the grey loop straps should be placed over the pulling handles. For better patient comfort, a pillow can be placed under the head.

If you are using a Slide Board – Trolley (sold separately), this can now be put in place. Insert it partly under the patient and partly over the edge. The Trolley Slide Sheet will work without the Slide Board. However, we highly recommend using a Slide Board – Trolley, as it will greatly reduce the friction when pulling the patient.

Once the trolley is in position, engage the brakes on the trolley and bed, and stand with the trolley between the people pulling and the bed. Depending on the patient’s weight, one, two or three nurses can pull the patient across to the trolley using the padded handles. Carers should employ a good manual handling procedure using their own body weight to move the patient. Once the patient is on the trolley, roll them to remove the Slide Sheet.

To Use – Trolley To Bed

This is done as above but in reverse. If you cannot comfortably reach across the bed, put a knee on the mattress before pulling the patient to assist balance and give more leverage.

The Stocking Slider Enclosed Toe Wrap Around is designed to help put on compression stockings.

It may help people who cannot bend and need to wear very strong elasticated stockings. For example, TED Stockings, which help with lymphoedema.

The advantage of the Stocking Slider Enclosed Toe Wrap Around over our standard Stocking Slider – Enclosed Toe (sold separately), is that it is long enough to cover the knee if getting stockings over the knee is a problem.

For some people this product may be difficult to use. Where possible, we recommend using Open Toe compression stockings, for which the standard Stocking Slider (sold separately) works very well.

For Carers assisting people to put their stockings on, the Portable Leg/Foot Support and Kneeling Support are useful products to make manual handing tasks easier. These products also have special carry bags available, for Carers who do home visits, etc.
