Description
The Bed Slide Sheet is an essential manual handling product. The slippery material can be used in a number of ways to help move Patients in bed.
An alternative to this product is the Bed Slide Sheet – Single Patient Use (Disposable) (10 Pack).
This low cost item is complementary to our Bed Roller Sheet, Slide & Turn Sheet, and Slide & Turn Hoist Sheet (that are left permanently underneath the Patient, to make the turning or moving up the bed, easier for the Carer with less disturbance to the Patient as they eliminate log rolling.
Materials Available
- Red – This material is very quiet. An important feature of this material is that it is breathable, which helps prevent perspiration, even in hot weather.
- Pink – This material is not breathable and has some noise when in use. This noise may disturb some Patients. The noise reduces a lot after a few washes.
- Light Blue – This material is also very quiet and breathable, like the Red, just a different colour.
- Royal Blue – This material is not breathable but has a lower, more acceptable noise level when new, and is less expensive than the other materials.
We heat seal the edges of the material to help prevent fraying. Heat sealing the seam also means we do not need to sew a hem which may compromise skin integrity.
To Use
Fold the sheet in half and roll it under a Patient, similar to fitting a draw sheet. When moving the Patient, gather up the loose end of the top part of the sheet and use body weight to turn the Patient. Do not use excessive movements with your arms. We generally recommend using the Bed Slide Sheets folded in half. The Carers use their own body weight to move Patients, not just relying on the Carer’s muscle power.
Practise with work colleagues to become proficient before using with Patients.
The Bed Slide Sheet may appear to have less ‘slip’ as it wears. If you find this, try spraying both surfaces with a food grade silicone spray. We recommend Helmar H 4000. Spray outside over grass, so the over-spray does not make any walkways slippery.
The International Standard for Manual Handling
The International Standard for Manual Handling is ISO/TR 12296:2012 – Ergonomics – Manual handling of people in the healthcare sector. The Standard states that a roll or sliding sheet and an electric height-adjustable bed must be used.
